Options for Help

If you or someone you care about is struggling with a gambling problem, remember there is help available. When it comes to assistance, keep in mind that no single plan fits everyone’s lifestyle.

Access to free treatment is available in Minnesota for qualified individuals. Call 1-800-333-HOPE to learn more about treatment or text HOPE to 61222.

Currently, there are options available for outpatient, inpatient and support group assistance.

Outpatient Assistance: Includes programs that provide general and specialized, non-hospital or residential based services. This type of assistance allows for guidance and support from treatment providers while allowing the flexibility to maintain work, home and family life.

Inpatient Assistance: For some, programs within hospitals or residential settings can be advantageous. Inpatient assistance includes the completion of a comprehensive assessment as well as a physical exam. Physical and psychological needs, gambling behavior, social, spiritual, nutritional, emotional, education and family history are all addressed in these assessments. Treatment providers use information gathered to create a personalized plan for each attendee.

Support Groups: Support groups are also available to provide a safe space for those dealing with problem gambling. Gamblers Anonymous is just one sample of such peer support assistance.

Both types of treatment may include the following activities:

  • Assessment and evaluation
  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Interventions
  • Individual and family mental health counseling
  • Womens’ programs
  • Men’s programs
  • Education
  • Relapse prevention programs
